The Cult - The Showbox SoDo, Sep 21/2010
Seattle, Washington, The Showbox SoDo
Opening Band: Black Ryder
Let me start by saying I love The Cult and have seen them in Seattle many times. This show at The Showbox SODO was troubling. The intro music was played over and over again for 15-20 minutes for some reason that obviously started bothering the crowd. Once The Cult took stage they played well and all with alot of energy yet there were alot of technical and sound problems throughout the show that Ian eventually mentioned. The crowd was very tame compared to other shows I've seen in Seattle and Ian even let them know by calling them "conservative" towards the later part of the show. I loved that Ian mentioned Andrew Wood again like he did a few years back at The Showbox Market as well as continually trying to get the crowd going, yet to no avail. His frustration with the crowd and technical issues was obvious. Rough night, but I still and always will treasure every Cult concert I'm fortunate enough to attend...

My first time to the Showbox at SoDo. What a huge place! A converted warehouse rather than the normal theatre/club type venue. I would think the guys had to be pleased with the turn out. Nearly full. I was wondering how they were going to follow up on their Love live show. They did not disappoint. They were absoultely impressive! Intro music went through about 3 loops. Ian later appologizing for the 'faux pas'. Ian playing the tambourine through out most of the set. He was full of fire. He admonished someone talking on the phone while they performed their 'poetry', telling people that what spews out of the record companies is 'shit' (reference to mostly negative response from fans over the capsule), and that the crowded needed to get engaged with the show and 'grow their hair' (reference to the large crowd mostly not reacting to the show). The show sounded exceptional! No shortcomings that I noticed anywhere.
