Edie (Ciao Baby) ACOUSTIC Perf. By the CULT Transcribed by Scott Coates, Canada From the CD single: Heart of Soul (1991) (BEG 260CD) Orig. Version can be found on 1989's SONIC TEMPLE This is the acoustic Edie from the Heart of Soul single. It was also done acoustically on some live shows during the Ceremonial Stomp Tour. (1991-92). Before you ask, Edie is Edie Sedgwick who was an actress and (essentially) Andy Warhol's chick. She's the original bored millionheiress. For more on her, see the movie "Ciao, Manhattan" (If you see the music video for this the actress playing Edie is actually Ian's girlfriend at the time, a spitting image for Edie.) Anyway, here goes, this song will differ a bit from the album version (no real solo, for one) but it works well. Originally, Duffy uses a sus4th for the Am, here I use something a little different. (My pinky isn't that strong and this works just as well). Your Chords: Am C G D (Tough, eh?) 002210 032010 320010 X00232 Am C G ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------0--1--0H1P0----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----------3-------------------2----------0------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------3--------------------------2----2-----2-------------0---------------------------------------------------------- ---0--------------------------------3------------------2------2----------------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------------------------3------------------------------------------------------------ Repeat 4 times, start strumming on the 5th . The 0H1P0 in the Am chord is a little tricky to get but with a bit of practice it will come. While strumming: Am C G Verse 1: Am C G Always said you were a youth Quaker, Edie Am C G A stormy little world shaker, Am C G Warhol's darling queen, Edie, Am C G An angel with a broken wing Chorus: D C G The dogs lay at your feet, Edie, D C G Oh, wind caressed your cheek, D C G Oh, stars wrapped in your hair, Edie, C (Let fade) Oh, life without a care But you're not there Note: After first chorus, do this: (Tab 1) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------4h5---5sl-7---5sl-4---5--4--------------------------------------------------------------------- ---5-sl.-7-----------------------------------7---5--7---sl/-----14------14------12---sl 11~~~~----------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Guitar 1 continue strumming Am C G) Verse 2: (Second verse, same as the first, a little bit louder ...same chords anyway) You're caught up in the endless sea, Edie, Yeah, paradise a shattered dream, Oh, wired on the (pills) you took, Edie, Your innocence dripped, blood sweet child (Yeah) (Chorus again, except last line as follows) C Tacet G G Oh, life without a care... ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---7--(7)---7---9---7---6---7~~~---6~~~---4---2---2---(7)---7---9---7---6~~~---7----9sl-11-------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------------------------------------11----12~~~------------------------- ---------------4H2----2--------0-----4---4-----6----7----11---9------------------------------------------- ---4----5------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is where the album goes to solo, acoustic just does chorus again, then tab 1 again, then tacet chords and play the following with single upstrokes for the chords... Am C G Oh, sweet little sugar talker, Am C G Yeah, paradise dream stealer, Am (pick it up) C G Oh, Warhol's darling queen, Edie, Am C G (Tacet) Innocence stripped, blood sweet child Chorus again Ad lib outro, a la, why did you kiss the world goodbye, ciao baby...don't you know paradise...etc. ...it takes time (tacet chord) over appreggio intro: But you're not there, Oh, fade away now, But you're not there Ciao, Edie (end on Am upstroke) Fini, ciao, baby!
