Spent the day in the city enjoying the sights. It was a very warm day and nice to have the time off work.
A bunch of fans met at the Lennox pub around the corner from the venue for food and drinks prior to the show. It was great as there were a number of groups of people going to the venue that had the same idea. It was lots of fun.
I got to the venue just as they were opening the doors around 8:00am. There was quite the line-up already. This show was sold out well in advance - the City of Vancouver really enjoys the Cult. I got in and got up to the front early. The Cult usually go on stage at 9:30, so I know there would be a long wait. Unfortunately, things too a little longer than usual and the Cult finally took the stage around 10:00pm.
From where we were standing, we knew the setlist was a long one. A nice surprise to see Aphrodisiac Jacket on the setlist. Quite an interesting encore with Horse Nation and American Horse. Ian mentioned something about the encore but it was very difficult to understand him being up so close. All in all it was a good mix of songs. And two from the 30 year old Dreamtime album was nice.
After the show I had passes to get into the green room. We hung out there for a bit and saw James, Chris, John and Ian. I heard Ian talking about the new album and recording with Bob Rock and Youth. He mentioned something about Bob Rock being in Toronto for a bit doing some other recording, but I cannot recall who he said he was working with. It sounds like the plan is to get new music out in 2014 or early 2015. Chris was very entertaining and mentioned that the band would be flying by helicopter to Victoria the next day.
I finally got out of the venue shortly before 1:00. Great to meet Marco from Montreal and all the other usual Vancouver crowd. We'll have to do this again soon!
