This was an ACE concert again. The sound, The songs
I was very happy they didn't do electric ocean, because that's the, only! song of the Cult, I don't like.
And a present was, the new song elementel light, I loved it and i'll visit the 20th september in Amsterdam Dont miss it!
Ian told about the busaccident PFFFFFF I read it on music11.com allready, but it gaves me the shivers again. Awful I am so glad everybody is okay and hopefully happy Oh, and btw, GUN, the support band was surprisely good .They did the song 'words up' by Cameo I always liked that one and thought it was funny. Cause who expects that, maybe they should try 'once bitten twice shy' by Ian hunter Why not.
CFFC!!!!!!!
Why would a man ride a bicycle for half an hour to the nearest station, take a train for an hour and a half, and then walk for 20 minutes to a venue housed in a basement located along a canal in the city of Utrecht, Holland on a Tuesday in July?
You know the reason: The Cult! By the way, Tivoli is a very nice venue. A bit like Paradiso in Amsterdam. Although it's in a basement, the ceiling is very high and there is a balcony.
The support band Gun was better than I expected, after seeing them again after 22 years, when they supported The Rolling Stones in big stadiums across Europe. They played for 45 minutes and after another 45 minutes the familiar opening tune of The Cult started.
From the first song 'Lil' Devil' to the last 'Love Removal Machine' it was great. Everytime I see The Cult I think 'Can this band get better' and the answer is 'No'. But then you see them again after about a year and they really are even better than the last time, although thats what you think right after the show.
They played the usual setlist, with one exception. The first encore was introduced by Ian as 'a song we never played before, it's called Life Is Bigger Than Death'. It was brave of them to play this beautiful ballad from the new album as the first encore. It started a bit shaky but it ended on the highest emotional level.
After 'Love Removal Machine' Ian introduced the band and said 'See you in September'.
A gig in Amsterdam (venue: Melkweg) on September 20 had just been announced in the media.
And then it was over, much too soon. Their standard setlist has been reduced to 16 songs and it takes them one hour and 20 minutes to perform them.
Come on, guys. You surely can add 2 or 3 songs to the setlist!
In the train back I had a nice conversation with a fan from Amsterdam and at 1.40 a.m. I was home. I'm already looking forward to the September 20 gig.
