Have been to Paard in Den Haag in Holland yesterday.

It had been allmost 20 years since I saw one of my favourite bands play live...It was some what an emotional experience. There's something about seeing you and your favourite band grow (a bit) older together. It didn't show (the age thing) Obviosly rock now's no age....I could go all day saying nothing but "they were brilliant, they were brilliant!!!!" Told my husband that from now on, no matter where or when, I want to go, see The Cult ..performing live.

Had the best night out for probably at least the rest of this year!

One special moment for me...was when they played Edie, one of my fovourite songs, I felt like I could just cry, it was so beautiful....then my best friend came to me and said... "this is one of my favourites, its so beautiful, i could just cry"....

Like i said...they were brilliant and i had a most perfect night out!!!!

The name of the venue means 'Trojan Horse'. It is a concert hall inside the walls of a beautiful building from the 19th century. Among Rolling Stones fans the 'Paard Van Troje' is well-known for a guest-appearance of Mick Jagger at a George Thorogood and The Destroyers concert in June 1982.

No nostalgia today. The concert hall is completely renovated in 2003 and with a capacity crowd of 1100 people The Cult is here to destroy the Trojan Horse.

At 9.00 pm sharp they hit the stage with Lil' Devil. The next song is Electric Ocean. Ian and Billy were a bit tense during these first two songs, but when Billy started the intro of The Phoenix all tension had gone and from that moment it was a show which passed by like a high-speed train.

The sound was great, Ian's voice was great, Billy was smiling more than ever before. First time for the Gretch in Rain. The audience singing along the chorus in Sweet Soul Sister.

Great renditions of The Witch and I Assassin. The latter described by Ian as a kind of Led Zeppelin-Sex Pistols song.

A heartbreaking version followed of Edie with the audience singing the lyrics word-by-word.

Then Ian said they would like to do a new song they played for the first time a couple of days ago at Knebworth.

It's called 'Every man and woman is a star'.

I really liked this song, although it ended very suddenly. They surely must practice the end of this song more.

Ian said the song is available on iTunes.

And then: Nirvana! This was one of the best versions I ever heard. Much better than the opening song it was on the Love Live Tour. Faster, harder, more intense. The crowd went wild and stayed wild till the end of the show.

Even more pogoing and beer-throwing during Spiritwalker, but Ian didn't mind. Today it was not the usual provocative Ian, but an Ian in a good mood, a good physical shape and with a good voice (compared to the problems he had in October last year).

Rise, Dirty Little Rockstar (with the guitar-riff lent from The Stones song 'Undercover Of The Night'), Fire Woman, Wild Flower. These songs were all played in the highest gear, with the highest commitment of the individual band-members and an amazing interaction with the audience.

In between songs Ian talked about he liked coming to Holland, the Pinkpop Classic Festival, the real Pinkpop with Iggy Pop, the difference between rock 'n roll and pop shit, and the 'Metallica Concept'.

I noticed a roadie behind Billy's amps playing tambourine during some songs. I even heard him sometimes, so the conclusion must be there is a sixth member in the band. A band which according to Ian is the best The Cult, in the sense of interrelations, there ever was.

After the predictable but great encores She Sells Sanctuary and Love Removal Machine Ian introduced the band (Chris introduced Ian).

His last words were: 'See you at Pinkpop!'

I'm still blown away by the excellent performance THE CULT gave us last tuesday in concert hall 'Paard van Troje' in The Hague, Holland.

There was no support act and THE CULT started at 21.00 hour in a sold out and crowded 'Paard van Troje'. The place was packed and even the two stories high balkonies were completely filled up with an exciting crowd (mostly aged over 35, looking at all the old tight CULT shirts and bold heads). Not only man rockers but also lots of women in the crowd. Very nice to see so many sweet soul sisters upfront! As always THE CULT delivered but this show had that extra special boost of the old days. Starting off with 'Electric' and 'Love' songs there was directly a good vibe. Ian's voice was good and he starting talking more in between the songs and saying that it was always great to be back in Holland and explaining about the music business these days (they will not be making an whole album at ones this time but putting tracks / e.p.'s on the market). He was also making fun of Bono and U2 saying that the real rock 'n' roll was coming from bands like THE CULT and not the 'pop and dance' kinda rock that U2 has brought the last few years. Billy gave us his usual rock poses and played a great gig. Also the band as a whole sounds great these days. Ian was saying the same about the current CULT line up ('best band to play with ever'). The new song 'EMAWIAS' sounded good live and I'm looking forward to other new stuff. When 'Nirvana' started the crowd got mad and started to pogo up front. Sweat was dripping and beer was flying through the air. Bodies stomping into each other.

The crowd didn't cool down 'till after the last tunes of encores 'She sells sanctuary' and 'Love removal machine'. It was a great setlist, but shame they don't play the 'Ceremony' and 'THE CULT' songs more often. Ian was asking who was coming to the Pinkpop festival next weekend (saturday 14-8-2010 in Landgraaf, Holland). O sorry the Pinkpop Classic festival Ian added and he said that all the great bands like The Stooges came to the Classic festival and not the 'real' Pinkpop. Surely I will be there to see THE CULT for the second time on the Pinkpop grounds! I was there in 1992. Organisor Jan Smeets then said that he would never invite THE CULT again at Pinkpop, because of the 'overtime' the played long after midnight in 1992 and there was only a license 'till twelve at midnight. There were some technical problems earlier on due to the bad weather and THE CULT only played for a small hour so they decided to play another few songs. High on probably everything available Ian was numb to the complains from organisor Jan Smeets and kept pushing the band to play on and on. They finished with a cover of 'Roadhouse blues' together with members from Pearl Jam. Great memories and hopefully they play 'Sun King' again this time. I will remember this great gig in The Hague, about my 10th CULT show I shaw in Holland and hope to see many more. CFFC!
