The Cult - House Of Blues, Aug 19/2009
San Diego, California, House Of Blues
Opening Band: Living Things
Just a quick note about the first of the Love shows...un...believable. Really really spectacular.

I know everyone has their preferences, but this, for me, was the best Cult show I've ever seen. I've been to maybe a dozen- I've seen them in 40,000 seat arenas and 200 person clubs, but it all came together tonight. To hear the entire Love album nonstop was amazing, but to hear it done so well was staggering. Ian's voice was really really good (I've heard quite a few when it was not) and it lasted through the last note of the last song. Billy crushed it, and the rest of the band were in top form. The HOB must have a great system, because the mix was nearly perfect. Even the video montage on the screen that played through the entire show was wickedly creative-like some 60s art school film. I guess saying everything was great would have covered it, but each of the parts just really came together like they so rarely do.

After a great Love fest, we were indulged with a second mini concert of hits that brought the house down. I think the majority of the crowd knew they were seeing something special and responded.

Anyway, for all the fans, if you have tickets, enjoy (I hope they can keep the energy up), if you don't, get some fast (this was sold out)!!

P.S. The opener, Living Things, put on a surprisingly good set. Don't know a thing about 'em, but for a bunch of kids that barely look old enough to be in a bar, they kicked some $h!t, and the crowd appreciated it.

The Cult delivered on Wednesday night, their first show of the "Love" Tour. The band was tight. Billy was amazing and Ian sang great. Ian had the Jim Morrison-look going with the leather jacket, leather gloves and curly brown mop. It was great to hear some of the 'Love' numbers not heard before like Big Neon Glitter and Black Angel. They didn't get on stage until 10 and played an hour and half set. They played all 10 songs of Love album in succession and then for an encore played another seven songs. The crowd was electric and into it and everyone left the venue with their ears ringing, like they should.

I saw the show at the House of Blues in San Diego in August. The show was so awesome, decided to see The Cult again in Raleigh, North Carolina November 13th. Looking forward to another show. LOVE is a great album, my favorite Cult album by far. Can't wait to see the town and the show!
