The Cult - Pepsi on Stage, Oct 2, 2008
Porto Alegre, Brazil, Pepsi on Stage
Evening of fine weather in Porto Alegre, this was the first time that The Cult played in the city located in southern part of Brazil. The venue chosen was "Pepsi on Stage" and unofficial sources say that about 1900 people went to the show.

The introduction of Clockwork Orange started playing, the audience screamed a lot when Chris WYSE, Mike Dimkitch, Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy went up on stage. The band began the show with "Nirvana" and could not have been better since the "Love" album is very well respected among fans of the band here in Brazil.

The show continued with "Rain" and once again, the fans sang even the guitar parts of Billy, something typical at concerts in South America. Then came "I Assassin" and it was great to see how the songs from "Born into this " sound so good live. Those songs really gained even more strength on stage.

We had 'The Witch', a good live song, even thou some fans complain that it's always on the set list.

In "Fire Woman" Billy's microphone had problems in the first chorus and he immediately complained, then spat toward the soundboard.

The next were "Edie" and "Illuminated", the latter had its chorus sung by all present fans and was an excellent song from "Born into This" played live.

"Horse Nation" and "Spiritwalker" is an excellent sequence for the most hardcore fans, it is very good to see the band playing this material. How about playing "Moya" again? It is a hint. I know many fans who would love to hear "Moya" live again.

"Rise" and "Savage" offer the best rock 'n roll experience of all time, a punch after another.

The next sequence was "Dirty Little Rockstar," "Wild Flower" and "Love Removal Machine." Good to see that the band decided a little change and no longer play "Love Removal Machine" at the end of the setlist.

Pause for the encore and the band returned with "Sweet Soul Sister" and then the most popular Cult song in Brazil, "She Sells Sanctuary".

Ian's voice was excellent and audible. Sometimes exercising his knee on stage, apparently feeling some discomfort. He was wearing a Sex Pistols T-Shirt. Billy Duffy is a guitar hero, good performance, riffs and solos throughout the show, always executed with great competence.

John, Chris and Mike are a great band, played all the songs with great enthusiasm and talent.

The setlist has not changed anything compared to past shows in the United States.

I hope it will be the first of many times that The Cult play in Porto Alegre.
