Cologne, Germany, Live Music Hall
Venue was nearly sold out, around 1000 people i would say. Not much conversation between Ian
and the audience, so PURE CULT rock music! Ian thanks roadrunner records for a good Job
and asked who in the audience has the record where horse nation is on. Only a few people put
up their fingers! I think that most of the people liked more the sonic temple stuff. But there
was a little pogo mob in front of the stage, where I was in for a few songs :-) All in all
it was a good `standard` gig with no suprises, but I have had fun with my bodies!
Cheers, Caesar
The Cult performed their standard setlist during their only German tourstop in Cologne. I
would have preferred some more tunes from their excellent new album, but clearly the crowd
(most males with sporting bellies) in a packed and sold out house were longing for the old
faves. Nonetheless, even for somebody like me who watches Cult boards closely, it will always
be great fun to see the boys performing a setlist without any surprises.
Indeed, the Cult proved once more that they can still rock a house, even if their shows
seem to degenerate to a routine matter. Astbury sang very well and missed no words, Wyse,
Dimkich and Tempesta were in fine form. Duffy, an icon of coolness, played flawless, but
behaved like a dirty little rockstar: During the whole show he ran an argument with his tech
whilst rolling his eyes and shaking his head permanently and rushing through the whole set.
Interaction between Astbury and Duffy - none. Are the Cult a nostalgia act? Hopefully not.
Skip some of the old tunes and keep it fresh with some newer ones (for example Illuminated
or even American Gothic). And Mr Duffy: Please treat your tech with more respect!
Peace
Matthias
The Cult really rocked Cologne last night. It was the only german gig and
so many fans from all over Germany came to see the band. After two boring
support bands and endless guitarchecks the band entered the stage with
Spirit Walker and Rain. The sound was excellent, even though the second
guitar wasn't always hearable, but if you have Billy Duffy on guitar this
fact doesn't really matter. The Live Music Hall wasn't sold out but nicely
and enjoyable full of Cult Fans. Astbury was singing really excellent which
really surprised us regarding to this tight tour schedule. Because of the
language barrier he didn't made too many speeches. The main set was nearly
the same compared to the gigs before and the new songs were well received
by the fans! The first encore was a brilliant Phoenix followed by Fire
Woman and Love Removal Mashine. The crowd could have shown a bit more
action all over the show, but hey, most of them aren't in their twenties
anymore. After 80 minutes the fun was over, we drove home very happy and
came to the opinion that The Cult are better on stage now than in the old
days, especially Astbury! What a great singer! And about Billy there's just
one thing to say, he's the last real guitar hero!
Kind regards
