Cincinnati, Ohio, Bogart's
Headlining, opening bands: The Clicks, Semisextile
Incredible show, much better than last year's HOB show in Cleveland. I didn't think Ian
was quite "on" that night. In Cincy, he sounded great, as did the whole band. I had
looked at a couple reviews from early in the tour, and was surprised that they opened
with "Nirvana" (although now looking at the more recent setlists, that seems the norm).
It's great they are playing "I Assassin" and "Savages", which are probably my favorite
tunes from the new album. Early in the set, Ian had security remove a guy who apparently
hit or pushed a girl. Ian said to security "He's out" and while pointing the guy out,
told him "you can't touch a woman like that"
I was fortunate to get into the show thanks to a friend of John Tempesta. We had "After
Show" passes, so we hung out for a while. It took the band over an hour to come out for
the Jager Meet & Greet. There were about 8 people with the Jager lams and 4 of us with
Cult passes. The people who had passes from Jager got an autograph and then a picture
with the band. When they were done, I talked to John for a few minutes. Said "hi" to Ian
as he walked by...the band didn't really hang around too long.
Also, I musta missed the Led Zeppelin "announcement" from Ian...mighta been in the
pisser...
One more note on Cinci...I saw that someone mentioned in another review that the band were
selling CDs at the show, but not at others. In Cincy, you could buy a pre-autographed CD
from FYE for $20 (regular version) or $25 (Savage version).

The bogarts show was terrific! The cult had not played Cincinnati since 1989, so this was
long overdue to me! Incense was burning back at the soundboard as the familiar strains of
the "Clockwork orange" intro played over the PA. They opened with "Nirvana", as in
previous shows, and sounded great from the start! Ian was wearing cool shades for the
first five or six songs, and I noticed Billy motioning for the sound guy at the side of
the stage to turn it up for the first couple of tunes. I noticed that for this show, they
had the logo backdrop hanging behind them, but did not have the projection screen as with
other shows. Not that it mattered. They were on fire all night!! Ian seemed to be having
a good time that night too, which was great to see. They played the standard set list that
they had played at previous shows. As for Ian's comments about opening for a band next
year that had a L and a Z in it's name, I was stunned to hear that, as was the rest of
the audience! The crowd was standing there in stunned silence when he said that. But the
cult definately got a good reception from the audience on this night, and it helped make
for a very memorable evening!! I hope they don't wait so long to come back to cincy next
time!!
