Madrid, Spain, La Riviera
Hi everybody! Incredible gig this one in Madrid! The band played and sounded very
very well. Only a few problems at the beginning with Ian’s micro, but they were
solved fast and we enjoyed one of the best concerts I’ve heard!!! The setlist was
the same as in previous dates. The most prominent things were a splendid Horse Nation
(I think the beginning of the song creates a magic atmosphere), Nirvana, an amazing,
as always, Fire Woman, with all the people jumping and singing, the acoustic version
of Star (Mike Dimkitch kept playing this song more time than he should, Billy looked
at him, smiled, and improvised his performance to follow Mike until he finished…
very fun!), the classic Rain, with all of us getting crazy one more time, the new
song!!!! I assassin, which sounded well, maybe reminding times of Electric, The
Phoenix, with “solos” from Chris Wyse and an outstanding John Tempesta (what a drummer…),
a surprising Rise (the people enjoyed it a lot, more even than Wild Flower or
The Witch), the non-acoustic version of Edie, and a strong end with She Sells
Sanctuary in the encore… I think we expected more songs, because after the encore
nobody moved waiting for them one more time… we wanted to hear Lil’devil, Sweet
Soul Sister, Sun King, War… 35-40€ should provide more than 90’ of crazy
music… or not.
So it was great hearing The Cult one more time. Maybe there were less people in the
hall than the previous time in june’06, but I’m sure the band enjoyed also the concert.
I’ve left the worse appointment to the end, and was the attitude of Mr. Astbury… He
arrived with a different look (shirt, sunglasses…), and did not gave any word to the
audience… nothing. Only the indispensable thank you at the end of each song. The
only connection between the band and us were the introductions of a few songs from
Billy… I think they should be more “friendly” with us… me for example, I traveled
600 km. to hear them!!! Ian and Billy didn’t just looked each other in the whole
concert… it seemed that Ian was angry with all the world… I hope they should solve
this…
